Dear Colleagues,

It is with great pleasure that we extend to you a cordial invitation to attend the joint Congress of the Southern African Hypertension Society (SAHS) and the South African Stroke Society (SASS), which will be held in the beautiful city of Durban at the Southern Sun Elangeni from 22 to 24 August2014. This will be a historic collaboration between the Stroke Society and SAHS, because of the strong links between hypertension and stroke.

The scientific programme will focus on hypertension, cardiovascular disease, and all aspects of stroke including rehabilitation. The programme will also include:
1) A refresher day
2) State-of-the-art lectures, and debates on topics of basic and clinical interest from international and national authorities in stroke, hypertension and cardiovascular disease
3) Satellite symposia
4) Break away sessions.

The programme will be under the responsibility of the Scientific Committee of SAHS and the SASS. The decision to host the congress at the Southern Sun Elangeni in Durban was made due to most cost effective facilities for the scientific programme and suitable exhibition space for Industry. The hotel is situated in the popular North Beach in Durban, and is close to many amenities in the surrounding areas. The joint meeting will also provide CME credits.

Researchers are invited to submit original abstracts for presentation, which will be peer reviewed by the Scientific Committee. Successful abstracts will be published in the Cardiovascular Journal of Africa.
